68/365: Square Dog Triumphant

Friends are always sending me pictures of Rat Terriers and Jack Russel Terriers and claiming they are the same as the much rarer Smooth Fox Terrier. Oscar begs to differ. Even though his sticky up ears would keep him out of the show ring, he is a pure bred with extensive papers to show for it. The one way you can always tell a Smooth is that they are "The Little Square Dogs". The length of their backs is in complete proportion to their legs so that when standing, they form a perfect square. Don't even show me those short legged, long backed Jacks. They are NOT the real thing. And that's all Oscar has to say.

Putting on your outdoor shoes. Don't think there is any chance there WON'T be a walk.

56/365: Freckle Nose

I'm always trying to get pictures of Oscar's freckly long nose. But this is a dog that is in constant motion. I can't even sneak up on him when he's asleep because he covers up his nose with his paws. But on this day, he came back from a long run at Fort Funston and posed quietly for pictures.

55/365: Ready for the Red Carpet

The dogs and I watched the Academy Awards and I couldn't resist swathing Lucy in pearls and Hermes silk for the occasion. For the record, they slept through most of it, except Oscar kept jumping up every time Jennifer Lawrence appeared on the screen. He's a huuuuuge fan!

One of the great things about the new San Jose place is that we bought some of the furniture from the previous owner. That saved us from any decorating (which we didn't want to do). But best of all, her decorating scheme featured a number of low settees that are easier for terriers to jump up on. Lucy is loving this one.

16/365: It's a Terrier World

And we just live in it. No need for dog beds. The dogs will take the comfy couch, thank you.

11/365: Take That Water!

We have a little man-made pond in Sonoma that has become a habitat for endangered Western Pond Turtles and the increasingly threatened Western Chorus Frogs. That despite the fact that Oscar loves to stand on a rock in the middle of the pond, bite at the water and bark and bark and bark and bark. I guess the turtles and frogs have figured out that he's harmless. At least if you aren't water.

9/365: I See You!

While we were in Cabo for over a week, our little Fox Terriers stayed in Sonoma with a babysitter. They had a good time, but they seem to have missed us. Even when he's sleeping next to me on the bed, when I move, Oscar immediately opens one eye to make sure I'm not sneaking off somewhere again.
